Be the solution you seek!
I must have heard it from somewhere but I can’t remember where.. or just maybe i coined it myself?? I’m a mother, aspiring writer and cancer – beater who has decided to devote some time to exploring and sharing some of the challenges of living with cancer as a black woman. As i take my journey with cancer, I don’t ever want another black woman (or any woman for that matter) to go through what i’m going through and feel like they are going through it alone, that no-one else will understand. That you have to continue with unanswered questions or half-answered questions that don’t fully address your ethnicity.
In my community i feel like we’re just too damn quiet about cancer and the silence is deafening and it’s soul-destroying. It’s time to talk about it. It’s time to talk about being black with cancer!
So maybe (most probably!) i won’t have all the answers but at least you will know that you are not alone! At least we can ask those questions together and provide each other support as we seek those answers.
